| Day 1 Sat: Arrive Alice
Springs You will be met at Alice Springs Airport or at the AAT Kings Office, 74 Todd Street, at 12.30pm. Enjoy panoramic views of Alice Springs from Anzac Hill, before we begin the journey along the Tanami Track to Tilmouth Well. This evening enjoy a welcome drink with your crew and fellow travellers. Camp: Tilmouth Well. Day 2 Sun: Tanami Track Traverse the ever-changing scenery of the Tanami Desert. The semi-arid desert landscape varies from clusters of native Wattle, Sturt Desert Rose and Grevillea, to open plains dotted with Spinifex bushes and termite mounds. Pass Rabbit Flat, Australia’s most remote outback roadhouse, the Granites and the Tanami Mines, before stopping at our bush camp. Bush Camp: Tanami Track. Day 3 Mon: Halls Creek This morning we cross into Western Australia and continue along the Tanami Track to the Northern Highway, travelling to Halls Creek, on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert. This is the location of the first gold rush in Western Australia. There is still gold in the area and mineral exploration continues on a large scale. It is also the hub of a vast cattle industry. Camp: Halls Creek. Day 4 Tue: Geikie Gorge The distinct landscape of the northwest region of the Kimberley becomes apparent today as we journey along the Northern Highway to the town of Fitzroy Crossing. Enjoy an afternoon cruise through Geikie Gorge. Camp: Fitzroy Crossing. Day 5 Wed: Broome Our journey continues westward today to the historic pearling port of Broome. See the sights of Broome including Chinatown, the Japanese Cemetery, Streeters Jetty and visit Ganthaeume Point for sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. to availability. Single traveller is required to pay single supplement. Day 6 Thu: Broome ‘Free Time’ A free day for you to explore tropical Broome. Cable Beach is only a short walk away. Tonight you may like to take a camel ride along Cable Beach at sunset. Day 7 Fri: Gibb River Road Travel north to Derby and visit the Circular Wharf. Stop to see Myall Bore and the Boab Prison Tree, used by the first police as an overnight holding cell before beginning the journey along the famous Gibb River Road to Windjana Gorge. This afternoon we inspect the unusual formation at nearby Tunnel Creek (conditions permitting). Bush Camp: Windjana Gorge. Day 8 Sat: Kimberley Gorges This morning we take a walk through spectacular Windjana Gorge. Crossing the King Leopold Range, we continue along the Gibb River Road, stopping at Galvans Gorge and Manning Gorge (conditions permitting). Bush Camp: Manning Gorge. Day 9 Sun: El Questro Wilderness Park Today we journey through some of the harshest terrain of the Kimberley, skirting the Cockburn Range and on to El Questro Wilderness Park. Spanning over a million acres, El Questro Wilderness Park is home to ancient gorges and pristine waterfalls. Camp: El Questro Wilderness Park, 2 nights. Day 10 Mon: El Questro ‘Free Time’ Today is free for you to explore El Questro Wilderness Park. Perhaps take an optional cruise through Chamberlain Gorge a fresh waterhole fringed by tropical vegetation and 60-metre tall escarpments. Day 11 Tue: Emma Gorge We travel to Emma Gorge Resort and take a guided walk into Emma Gorge. Take a relaxing swim in the crystal clear water at the base of the waterfall, before continuing along the famous Gibb River Road to the town of Kununurra. Camp: Kununurra, 2 nights. |
KIMBERLEY OPTIONS Enjoy a Bungle Bungles 4WD adventure or Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine tour. Please enquire for details. Day 12 Wed: Kununurra This morning we explore Mirima (Hidden Valley) National Park and admire the views from Kelly’s Knob Lookout. See 300 million year old sandstone cliffs, often referred to as the ‘mini Bungles’. Later, visit the historic Durack Homestead and enjoy a cruise on mighty Lake Argyle. Enjoy an optional scenic flight over the Bungle Bungles. Ask for details. Day 13 Thu: Nitmiluk National Park Depart Kununurra and cross the border into the Northern Territory. Heading east we travel via Timber Creek and Victoria River, traversing large cattle stations to the township of Katherine. Tonight we set up camp in Nitmiluk National Park. Camp: Nitmiluk National Park. Day 14 Fri: Kakadu National Park Enjoy an early morning cruise through spectacular Katherine Gorge. We stop at beautiful Edith Falls where there is time for a swim, before travelling via the gold mining town of Pine Creek to Kakadu National Park. Camp: Kakadu National Park. Day 15 Sat: Kakadu – Darwin This morning cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong. At Nourlangie Rock take a short walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock art. We stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre. Continue to Darwin for an orientation tour. Hotel: Travelodge Mirambeena Resort, Darwin, 2 nights. Day 16 Sun: Darwin ‘Free Time’ Enjoy a day at leisure to relax and explore the Top End city of Darwin. LITCHFIELD OPTION Experience the beauty of the main falls of the Park. Enjoy interpretive bush & forest walks. Ask for details. Day 17 Mon: Depart Darwin Your tour concludes today after breakfast. You will be transferred to Darwin Airport to connect with your onward flight. |
