After a short drive from Cooinda to Djarradjin Billabong, we meet our hosts and transfer by boat across the beautiful billabong to a secluded bush site and enjoy learning about the traditional Aboriginal way of life. Hear intriguing stories about Aboriginal history, the language and the interpretation of the seasonal cycles of the bush. Learn a few secrets of the sources and preparation of “bush tucker” and perhaps have a try at throwing a hunting spear. Later in the day, we venture off the beaten track to Barramundi Gorge, where a 2km return walk through paperbark forest leads to a small waterfall and clear plunge pool with the opportunity to swim. Day 3: Jim Jim & Twin Falls A truly enjoyable day exploring the majestic beauty of Jim Jim and Twin Falls. Access to Jim Jim Gorge is by a 900 metre walk over rocks. The plunge pool at the base of Jim Jim provides the opportunity for a welcome swim throughout the year. The surrounding gorges are a spectacle to behold as the rock colours continuously change with the sun’s position. Access to Twin Falls is via a short easy stroll to the edge of the stream and then a short boat trip up the gorge area to the beach at the base of these beautiful falls. Here, you have spectacular scenery that you are bound to remember for a long time. Accommodation: Kakadu Lodge (T), Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn (H), Jabiru. Day 4: Arnhem Land Included Optional Today we depart from Jabiru and visit remote, mysterious and restricted areas of Kakadu and Arnhem Land. This is Aboriginal land – a unique area where Aboriginal people live a lifestyle more closely linked to their true culture and heritage. This 4WD tour will visit Mikinj Valley, a superbly scenic area of sandstone outcrops and escarpments, forest, floodplains and billabongs. This is an area where Aboriginal People have lived for thousands of years and with the co-operation of the Manilakarr people, this unique tour will allow you to see places inaccessible to most. Hear of traditional land ownership, learn of bush skills, hunting, food gathering and preparation (bush tucker), view Aboriginal art in its natural state – no fences or barriers, or other groups… just art as it was created many years ago. Return to Jabiru late afternoon where you will be met by your guide for the transfer to Darwin, stopping briefly at the Bark Hut Inn for a meal stop (own cost). Arrive in Darwin at approximately 9.30pm. |
