|
| Code: AK48 |
 |
Highlights: • Valley of the Winds • Barbecue Dinner • Uluru (Ayers Rock) • Kings Canyon
Day 1: Alice Springs – Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)
Travelling south we stop to visit a camel farm for an optional camel ride (own expense). Later stop at a lookout to view Atila (Mt. Conner) before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. In the afternoon, travel to Kata Tjuta. Enjoy a 2-3 hour walk through the fascinating domes to the Valley of the Winds. The walking path is rocky and requires a good level of fitness. Later enjoy an ‘outback’ sunset followed by a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. Travel to our exclusive barbecue venue to enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner and stargazing (weather permitting). Vegetarian meals available upon request at time of booking.
Accommodation: Outback Pioneer Budget Rooms (L), Outback Pioneer Hotel (R), Desert Gardens Hotel (F) or Sails in the Desert (S), Ayers Rock Resort, 2 nights.
Day 2: Uluru (Ayers Rock)
This morning join the Uluru Sunrise, Climb and Base Tour (Y18) or for the non-climbers, the Uluru Sunrise and Guided Cultural Walk (Y41). Both tours include a visit to Mutitjulu Waterhole and the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. See pages 16/17 for more itinerary details. This evening enjoy sunset and the changing colours of Uluru and a complimentary glass of wine. Optional Sounds of Silence Dinner is available this evening.
Day 3: Ayers Rock Resort – Kings Canyon
The morning is at leisure to relax or join an optional tour (see page 60). In the afternoon, travel to Kings Canyon. There may be time to view the sun set behind Carmichaels Crag. In the evening you might like to view the stars in the ‘outback’ sky.
Accommodation: Kings Canyon Lodge (L), Standard Rooms (F, R) or Deluxe Spa Rooms (S), Kings Canyon Resort.
Day 4: Kings Canyon
This morning make the climb to the rim of the canyon, where you will be rewarded with marvellous views of Watarrka National Park (for those with a good level of fitness). Continue the 3 hour walk around the canyon with your guide as you hear and learn about the geology and history of this amazing formation. Alternatively, take the easier 1.5 hour walk along the boulder-strewn canyon floor. Return to Kings Canyon Resort for lunch (own expense). There is time for an optional scenic helicopter flight (own expense, see page 61) to view the canyon from the air. Travel on to Alice Springs or back to Ayers Rock Resort this afternoon. |
