Day 1: Darwin – Kakadu
Travel across Adelaide River and Marrakai Plains and deep into Kakadu National Park. Take a guided walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie Rock. After lunch join the famous Yellow Water Billabong Cruise to observe saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of prolific bird life that this region is renowned for. Visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre and view the informative displays and exhibits depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people.
Accommodation: Kakadu Lodge Quad- Share (Q), Kakadu Lodge Twin Rooms (L), Aurora Kakadu (K) or Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn (F), Kakadu.
Day 2: Kakadu – Darwin
This morning stop at Ubirr with a short walk to view Aboriginal rock art. Join the Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River in search of saltwater crocodiles. We have an Aboriginal guide with us and with the special permission of the local people, we will be able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre. Opportunity for a scenic flight (own expense) over the Arnhem Land Escarpment. Return to Darwin this evening. |

Day 2: Arnhem Land – Darwin
An early start this morning as we travel by 4 Wheel Drive vehicle into Arnhem Land and the Mikinj Valley. We travel through spectacular scenery including sandstone outcrops, escarpments, forests and floodplains. Learn about traditional land ownership, bush skills and ‘bush tucker’. View Aboriginal rock art in its natural state. Most tours are accompanied by an Aboriginal guide. |

Day 1: Darwin – Katherine Gorge
Travel south through tropical country,
passing former WWII airstrips. We make
a short stop at the Adelaide River War
Cemetery, a site dedicated to those killed
in the air-raids in Darwin in the 1940’s.
Continue to Edith Falls, where there is time
for a refreshing swim in the waterhole
beneath the falls (conditions permitting).
On arrival at Katherine Gorge there is
opportunity for a quick lunch (own expense)
at Sugarbag Cafe, taking in spectacular
views over the Katherine River from the
outdoor deck. There is time at leisure or
perhaps get up close and personal to the
mesmerising Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge,
by canoeing the first gorge at your own
pace (own expense). Later, we’ll depart
on a sunset cruise to discover the ways of
the Jawoyn people against a magnificent
backdrop of cliff faces changing colour with
the setting sun. Experience the spectacular
beauty of the Gorge by candlelight while
enjoying delicious Australian cuisine.

Katherine.
Day 2: Aboriginal Culture
Enjoy an informative guided walk through
nature’s pantry, identifying traditional
foods of the Jawoyn people, climaxing with
a swim at a waterhole or at a sandy beach
along the Katherine River. The tour includes
refreshments and a small backpack, yours
to keep as a souvenir. Please bring only
minimal personal belongings, small towel,
hat, sunscreen and water bottle. Lunch may
be held poolside or at the visitor’s centre
(depending on season) before a brief tour of
Katherine, the hub of the region’s cattle and
farming industries. An evening stop is made
at Adelaide River where you may purchase
dinner (own expense). You may like to
sample the famous ‘Barra and Chips’, before
returning to Darwin. |
