3 Day, 4WD Kakadu 'Unleashed' Safari

Their 'Unleashed' safari is the extreme side of Adventure Tours & is for YOUNG, FIT PEOPLE only. It includes strenuous hikes and basic bush camping (sleeping in swags with no tents) often in remote locations so we can get away from the crowds where possible in Kakadu National Park.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 :: DARWIN TO MARY RIVER & KAKADU NATIONAL PARK
First we’re off to Mary River Wetlands, with the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the southern hemisphere. Get close (but not too close!) to ‘salties’ and other wild creatures on a cruise of the wetlands. This afternoon we go to history-rich Ubirr, where vivid Aboriginal rock art dates back over 20,000 years. Then we head to our overnight bush camp in Kakadu. (LD)

DAY 2 :: KAKADU NATIONAL PARK
It’s an early one this morning as we travel to Twin Falls. The spectacular gorge is experienced onboard a National Park operated boat and along the boardwalk. Unwind and relax for a bit on the sandy banks before we head deep into the escarpment country to the awesome Jim Jim Falls. It’s a challenging climb to the top of the falls (seasonal) but it’s worth it for the sensational views over Kakadu. You’ll be asleep in no time once we reach our overnight bush camp in Kakadu! DAY 3 :: KAKADU TO DARWIN
After waking up in our swags, we head down to the Warradjan Cultural Centre to check out the detailed information about Aboriginal Culture in Kakadu. Then we take a hike at Maguk (Barramundi Falls), followed by a cooling dip in the plunge pools. We then take the 4WD Old Darwin Road (seasonal), passing the White Lily flood plains along the way as we return back to Darwin after an exciting three days in Kakadu. (BL)

		Only the 3 day Kakadu 'Unleashed' safari is rated 3 boots+. This is because of the demanding nature of the walks. If you are intending on travelling on a tour or package that incorporates travel between Darwin and Broome (Western Australia) in either direction then please read the below important fitness criteria relating to travel in that specific region.

		No facilities other than those that are carried on the vehicle. Passengers sleep in swags (Aussie bedroll). The tour will stop along the way at road houses for clients to have a shower.

Do you meet their criteria? I can hike 5-9kms a day over uneven terrain un-aided I am prepared and able to walk in high temperatures and humidity - up to and more than 35 degrees Centigrade and 90% humidity everyday. I can SLEEP IN A SWAG/BEDROLL with sleeping bag on the ground for 7 nights I’m happy use bush camps with NO TOILET OR SHOWER FACILITIES on several nights. On these nights a designated toilet area will be set up. I will adhere to the STRICT LUGGAGE LIMIT of 15kgs per person. If you are unable to comply with the above, then you should reassess your commitment to the trip. Perhaps alternative travel options will be better for you ie. Accommodated, large bus coach travel. Irrespective of whether you are able, Adventure Tours Australia reserves the right to assess your fitness capability on or before the first day of travel. At this time: - Elderly passengers must have a medical certificate issued by a local Australian Doctor to be presented to them at this time showing a level of fitness and/or suitability to travel subject to the conditions above.

Safaris must be reconfirmed by 4.00pm the day before travel. Itineraries may vary and/or attractions be substituted due to seasonal & extreme weather conditions, Traditional Owner and national park requirements. Luggage limit of 15 kg applies - backpack or soft bag.
