Darwin and the surrounds
Darwin is the capital of Australia's Northern Territory. It is a modern, tropical city located on a harbour twice the size of Sydney's!
Darwin is the gateway to the Northern Territory and the surrounding area which includes other destinations like Litchfield National Park and the Tiwi Islands, and it is also often the launch pad for travel to Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land.
Melville and Bathurst islands, known as the Tiwi Islands, are north of Darwin. The Tiwi people are known around the world for their unique fabric prints, pottery, sculptures, and outstanding talent at Australian football. Travellers can board a small plane in Darwin for the 35-minute flight to the islands, or cross the Timor Sea in around two hours on a ferry.
