Three hours drive east of Darwin is the well-known, World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park - an amazing assortment of woodlands, forests, Waterways, floodplains, and lets not forget the awesome waterfalls, all home to an incredible array of wildlife.
Kakadu National Park is the largest national park in Australia, but it isn't just the size that amazes visitors - it is the sense of something very old and grand.
Over thousands of years, Aboriginal people left behind some astonishing galleries of Aboriginal art, with rock sites dating back 25,000 years. More than 1,000 sites have been recorded.
Some areas of Kakadu have restricted visiting times, and others are not open to the general public or are only accessible with a permit. Most waterfalls may not run all year round due to seasonal conditions. As you enter Kakadu National Park, you will be required to buy a permit. Part of this money is paid to the Traditional Owners of the land as rent and the remainder contributes to the upkeep of the park.
