Munupi Wilderness Lodge
Property Information:
Munupi Wilderness Lodge is located on Melville Island in the Tiwi Island Group with unspoiled fishing as it was 0ver 100 years ago. The Lodge is a spacious, cool, and relaxing retreat from the sometimes debilitating affects of the tropical climate. It is set amongst acres of well watered lawns, and surrounded by palms and a tropical garden that creates a magnificent ambience for your enjoyment and relaxation. A popular spa area is covered with a thatched roof, and can be used throughout the day till late. A jetty is currently under construction, and when finished will make an idyllic setting for an evening drink while the sun goes down (or comes up!)
Bar and Restaurant:
There is a well stocked bar in the bar/restaurant area that looks directly east over the Apsley Straight, and Michael will cater for any special preferences in the way of drinks if you let him know in advance. Just imagine! You are pleasantly tired from a big day on the water. You've just had a refreshing shower, and an equally refreshing drink. (Perhaps you have you feet up - your choice!) You are sitting comfortably in the bar area of Munupi Wilderness Lodge, perched high on a cliff. A few moments ago several Magpie Geese flew straight over head, flying in a single "V" towards their roost on Bathurst Island, now a mere silhouette in the approaching twilight.
You will enjoy the food. That's for sure. One of the reasons will be your healthy appetite stirred along by the sea air and the surroundings! Should you wish, the surroundings will supply an interesting part of your diet during your stay at the Lodge. The meals are mostly of the Bistro variety, but anything can, and often does, happen, and Kerri-Ann makes sure that all tastes are catered for. Fresh vegetables and produce, if not grown locally, are flown in from the mainland, as well as any special delicacies that you would like to enjoy during your stay.
Michael and Kerri-Ann have had fifteen years to perfect and create his own recipes for the local seafood. Fresh Barramundi, Salmon, Jack or Snapper (perhaps depending on your own angling skills) feature regularly on the menu. Perhaps a local Crayfish, or a feed of fresh Mussels are more to your liking. As well the giant Mud Crabs, almost a meal in themselves, can be served steamed, smoked over hot coals aboriginal style, or in a delicious sauce that has the aromatic taste of nearby Asia.
Or you may be treated to succulent roasts, grilled or barbequed steaks, or perhaps you would like to suggest a meal that Kerri, Michael or David can prepare especially. All dietary requirements are catered for; simply make your needs clear when you book and it will be done. Quite often, when there are a few guests around, everyone seems to join in cooking around the BBQ that is strategically situated just outside the bar area and the restaurant. Your breakfasts and lunches are prepared to your taste, and there are plenty of snacks and fruit.

Location Information:
Enjoy the spoils of some of the greatest sports fishing in the world. Rated as one of the top 5 fishing lodges in Australia, you are invited to find out why people like Rex Hunt, ET, Mark Burg and the boys from Surfing The Menu use Munupi Lodge as their playground. It is unusual to find such diverse habitats as are available to the visitor to Munupi. Munupi is situated at the Northern end of the Apsley Straight, on Melville Island.
Within a 1 hour trip you can find magnificent blue water and reef fishing, rocky headlands, vast fish holding flats and estuary systems, rock bars, and deep holes of up to 200 feet. Mangrove lined creeks that are home to the mighty barra and the saltwater crocodile. There are days where the water pours through the Straight as though a plug had been taken out, yet at other times when there is little movement between tides.
It is possible to travel up the rivers to their source, encountering brackish water that ultimately turns to fresh. There are broad swamps and wetlands covered in geese ducks and other waterfowl. Paperbark forests all with abundant flora and fauna, including numerous wallabies the kangaroo and dingo.
The area is well known for its diverse range of fish types, its possible to catch anyone of the following Barramundi, Queenfish, Giant Trevally, Salmon, Dolphin Fish, Coral Trout, Golden Snapper, Mangrove Jack, Spanish Mackerel, Jewfish, Longtail Tuna, Estuarine Rock Cod, Coral Trout and Mud Crabs.
