Uluru or Ayers Rock is Australia's most identifiable icon. Rising from the huge desert plain in the deep centre of Australia, the famous sandstone monolith stands 348 metres high, and has most of its bulk below the surface.
Uluru is located in the Northern Territory south-west of Alice Springs in the Uluru/Kata Tjuta National Park. West of Ayers Rock (Uluru) is Kata Tjuta, also known as The Olgas. This massive pile of rock domes dates back 500 million years. Both Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) have great cultural significance for the Anangu traditional landowners.
The awesome size of Uluru (Ayers Rock), the sense of spirituality and the amazing changing colours, makes a visit to Uluru and Kata Tjuta always a highlight of a trip to the Northern Territory.
