This 11-hour Litchfield National Park tour starts before dawn to catch the Adelaide River when few others are around, giving you a private crocodile cruise and uncluttered access to the park's waterfalls and rock pools. You'll swim at Wangi, Florence and Buley, see the distinctive termite mounds, and return with lunch and plenty of water included. Local guides lead the full day from Darwin into Australia's Top End.

What to expect

You'll meet early (before 6am) and head north into Litchfield with a guide who knows the park well. The private crocodile cruise happens while the river is quiet—you'll see saltwater crocs from the boat. After, you'll visit three separate natural pools where you can actually swim in the cool spring water. The termite mounds are striking in person, much taller and more sculptural than photos suggest. Lunch and snacks break up the day. Expect a full-on schedule with driving, swimming, and walking, but nothing strenuous.

Good to know

Bring swimmers, towel, hat and sunglasses—the sun is intense. Children under 4 aren't accepted. The park entrance fee isn't included; check with the operator about park passes. Plenty of water's on hand, but bring a bottle to refill. No dietary issues if you let them know ahead.
